Mr. Rogers Has Been Helping Crime Victims Since 1986:
· As a Law Student:
After his first year of law school at Georgia State University College of Law, Mr. Rogers served as a Governor's Intern in the Clayton County Juvenile Court. He observed, first-hand, how crime can tear families apart. He assisted in the intake process in child abuse, neglect and abandonment cases, and had the privilege of providing assistance at a group home where a number of minors had become wards of the state, frequently due to criminal incidents suffered by one or more of their family members. It was also during this internship that Mr. Rogers decided to begin his legal career as a criminal prosecutor.
As a third-year student in law school, Mr. Rogers served in the Fulton County District Attorney's Office as a student prosecutor. During this time, he had the fortunate opportunity to be assigned to the courtroom of Judge William Daniel, while being supervised by Thomas A. Jones. As a student, Mr. Rogers prosecuted felony cases, including Aggravated Assault and Armed Robbery.
· As a Criminal Prosecutor:
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Rogers became a prosecutor in the DeKalb County Solicitor's Office. As an Assistant Solicitor, Mr. Rogers represented the State of Georgia in all phases of misdemeanor prosecution, including making initial charging decisions, conducting arraignments and pre-trial hearings, acting as sole counsel in jury and bench trials, writing appellate briefs and arguing cases on appeal to the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Georgia. During his five years as Assistant and Senior Assistant Solicitor, Mr. Rogers conducted more than 75 jury trials and was responsible for the prosecution of more than 3500 cases.
Mr. Rogers supervised the Domestic Violence Program, the Shoplifting Diversion Program, and Bad Check Program, and was responsible for training and supervising new assistant solicitors and for teaching new and experienced police officers at the DeKalb courthouse offices and at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA.
Mr. Rogers also assisted in drafting the first anti-Stalking legislation to be signed into law in the State of Georgia.
· As a Personal Injury Lawyer:
After leaving prosecution, Mr. Rogers worked with the law firm of Finch, McCranie, Brown and Thrash in Atlanta, Georgia where he handled a wide variety of personal injury and civil litigation matters for injured and damaged plaintiffs. He was solely responsible for approximately 50 cases a year in various stages of litigation and was sole counsel in approximately 20 personal injury jury trials over a four-year period. While at Finch, McCranie, Mr. Rogers represented numerous individuals seriously injured in automobile and on-the-job accidents, employees subjected to racial and gender discrimination, and employees discriminated against due to HIV/AIDS. Mr. Rogers also represented individuals injured due to the negligence of the State of Georgia and the federal government.
· As a Crime Victim Lawyer:
Mr. Rogers began specializing in crime victim cases in 1998 when he co-founded the law firm of Rogers & Howard, LLC. Over 10 years Mr. Rogers obtained substantial monetary compensation for numerous victims of crime and had the honor of assisting them in receiving meaningful counseling and therapy to heal their psychological wounds, and helping them understand and participate in the underlying criminal prosecution of their cases.
In 2008, Mr. Rogers joined forces with Gilbert Deitch to form Deitch & Rogers, The Crime Victim Law Group. Mr. Deitch and Mr. Rogers have, collectively, handled more civil cases on behalf of crime victims than any law firm in the State of Georgia.
